When officers arrived, Washington fired a gun multiple times from inside a room, Wunderlich said.She said one officer suffered a non-life-threatening fragment wound to the head. That officer has since been discharged from the hospital, she said. After he fired shots, Washington then barricaded himself in the room, and the Horry County Police Department SWAT responded to the scene, according to Wunderlich. Hours later, there was an exchange of gunfire and Washington died at the scene, Wunderlich said. No other information was released.This was the third incident in South Carolina this year where an officer has been involved in a shooting, Wunderlich said.
